The Estrela Mountain Dog, named
after the Serra da Estrela mountain range which
includes Portugal’s highest peak (1,993
metres), is one of the oldest pure breeds in
the Iberian Peninsula.
This large mountain dog, most commonly long
and wavy-coated, is probably related to the
Asian Molosser and the Spanish Mastiff with
which it shares an aptitude for herding. It
is often mistaken for a Leonberg or a Sharplanina
from which it differs physically and in its
aptitude for work.
Respect and recognition
These rare
working dogs were re-introduced to France
about ten years ago, but although very
well-known in Scandinavia and the English-speaking
world, the breed is still struggling to
become established on French soil. The
Estrela must be bred and trained in keeping
with tradition and the nature of the dog.
In fact, owning and raising an Estrela
is a way of life !
We are situated in the Vallée de
l'Isle in the heart of the Périgord
region of France, where our dogs are raised
in a family environment and in natural
surroundings alongside the other animals
on the farm, including pygmy goats, Soay
and Ouessant sheep and horses.
Wherever you live in
the world, we undertake to provide you with
the dog you need.
After
all, our reputation is built on a history
of satisfied customers :
Our puppies are selected
and receive preliminary training for their
intended purpose – guarding property,
herding, working dog, sport, competition,
breeding or as a pet, the environment they
will live in and their future owner. That
way you can be sure of ending up with the
right dog for you.
They
are from the best Portuguese and French and
working dog bloodlines, guaranteed by the
genetic certification (DNA certification)
of the pedigrees of the parents.
All
our dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and
dewormed, and we can export them for you with
a three generations pedigree.
We
undertake to provide you with the puppy
best suited to your requirements and the
environment you live in, and we support
you throughout your dog’s life. Lords
